I am going from LA to Frankfurt to Mumbai and then from Maldives to Singapore to LA. I thought it was cool that I would be flying around the world until I saw that my flight from Singapore to LA is 17-1/2 hours. What do you do on a plane for 17-1/2hours? Are you kidding me? Afterwards, my friend told me that I booked the 2nd longest commercial flight. I want to know what the 1st longest flight is so I make sure I don’t accidently book that one day. Needless to say, I don’t think it is so cool anymore.

The first time I went to India back in ‘97 it took 22 hours to get there from NYC, but that’s including lay overs. I can’t imagine being on a plane non-stop for almost 18 hours! That’s crazy.
You should really try to make it to the Hare Krishna (ISKCON) temple in Mumbai. I haven’t had the chance to visit there, as usually when we visit India we go to the North (near Delhi), but I’ve heard it’s very opulent and beautiful. Here’s some info on it:
http://www.bombay-mumbai-hotels.com/places-of-worship/iskcon-temple.html
If anything else it would just be a great experience and it seem you enjoy new experiences, as you can’t stop traveling the world!

OH Darling!!
My wife used to visit Jean-Paul II in Manilles many years ago (in 94).
She took the plane from Toulon to Paris,From Paris to Dubaï,then Dubaï to Kualalumpur and then to Manilles!!! If I don’t take the only hour she spent in Transit in Dubaï,she spent 22h15!!!!!! OMG!!!!!! All tihs to see Jen-Paul II!!!
I can’t believe it!!!!!
My last travel was really quickest, 1h15 ,but how more important into my eyes!!!
With all my respect to him
Try to take a good book,an good Ipod and all its accessories and don’t forget your computer!!!At least, you can do all the tons of stuff you have to for your website!
An other solution.Make a big Fiesta for 2 days before,without sleeping an hour,and you’ll appreciate your fly!!!!lol
Take care

I was looking into a trip to Cape Town South Africa. I believe that was a 12 or 13 hour flight, IF you get a direct flight. I have decided to go elsewhere for the time being. I thought that was too long, but 17-1/2? Ick.
Good luck. I love to read, but that is hardcore to read for that long. I would think a couple of stiff drinks and reduce your sleep the day before. Try to kill a bunch of time by sleeping.
You could always write me a love poem too.

Hi Aria!
I take it that booking that long a flight was a total accident? Poor bambina!
Well, since you’re a lover of books, my only advice is to go to a Barnes & Noble and stock up. Bring plenty of CDs and your laptop if they’ll let you and write in your blog and I’ll all keep you company throughout the trip.
Seriously, e-mail me either before or during the flight and we can e-mail back & forth during it. I’ll stay with you for as long as you like.
If not, take care and travel safe pretty lady. I was just trying to help.
I’m also glad to see you’re feeling better after your recent illnesses.
Your friend… David

the longest i was on a flight was 10 hours and it was too long, i was so happy to get off that plane, and i was welcomed with free shots from the bacardi girl, limon i dont drink bacardi but i think it was limon, well lemon flavored bacardi, besides those little bottles they give you dont do any justice, i tried sleeping, i read, i played tic tac toe with my sister, we bullshited i did cross words, i complained, and i thought i was gonna go crazy, i cant still for 45 minutes so it was driving me crazy thankfully i brought my drawing pencils and that killed about 6 hours, but if i didnt i might have went sky diving or running around the aisles until they landed the plan and took me away in a strait jacket, but thats just me, you could take some ambien and sleep, or nyquil pm, hopefully you have a friend you can harrass, are you allowed to take a computer, i would load it up with movies and games, they sell little mini laptops that have very good battery life, and you can buy extended batteries so it will last a little longer, maybe about 10 hours or so, you can always pray that you are landing soon

Have a great trip!

By the way, I was wrong. It is very close to 17 hours to Cape Town from New York. So they are actually comparably horrible!

I’m assuming you book first class.
I took a flight from Tampa to Detroit to Nagoya. Detroit to Nagoya was 13 hours plus. Economy. Couldn’t sleep. Was still a smoker at the time. Next to children. No laptop. No iPod. Sucked.
It was worth it, though.
And on the flight back, I was seating next to a lovely Japanese girl who wanted to practice her English. Score!

According to my “research,” Newark to Singapore is the longest commercial flight.
If only we could travel through warp pipes like the Super Mario Brothers. We could have one strategically placed in every major city around the globe. Then again, we’d probably end up waiting in line for 17 hours to use one anyway.
Hey, you could always travel by boat!

You should definitely go if you haven’t already! I saw your photos from India, and they were so beautiful. I lived there for six months (Delhi/Gurgaon), and it was quite the experience. I didn’t make it to Maldives, and that is something I deeply regret.
If you’re going to Singapore, why not stop over in Hong Kong or Taiwan? I can’t imagine sitting on a plane for 17+ hours (plus the time it takes to commute to and from the airport…oy).
Safe travels. I can’t wait to read more about your experiences and see your photos.
Ciao.
